A technology enthusiast presently pursuing graduate studies at the Department of Computer and Information Science and Engineering, University of Florida. I joined UFL in the Fall of 2008. Prior to that, I completed my Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering from Guru Tegh Bahadur Institute of Technology (Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi). I was born on July 30, 1986 at New Delhi, India. I am a Microsoft Certified Professional: .NET Framework - Application Development Foundation.
Currently, I am also working part-time as a Software Developer at the Bridge Software Institute, Department of Civil and Coastal Engineering, University of Florida. My key responsibilities include new feature additions for data aggregation and analysis in the FB-Multipier software, development and maintenance of database applications for the Florida Department of Transport (FDOT). These applications are used to import and export all of their bridge data to a database using XML packages processed through a special DLL.
Also, for Summer 2009, I worked as a Web Developer at the Department of Biology, University of Florida. I developed the web infrastructure for the newly structured department and created a central database system for the current and future needs of the department.
My interests in computer science are in the field of data management using databases and the use of web technologies to facilitate faster information retrieval and management. I am highly proficient in designing of databases and their implementation on servers. I have hands-on experience with both client-side and server side web technologies. I have worked on both Windows and Linux platforms. Also, I am cognizant with various networking technologies and their implementation.
I’m an avid technology evangelist and a keen learner, passionate to acquire new skills. I would define myself as a perfectionist and a workaholic, totally dedicated to my work. I love tasks which are challenging and thrive to achieve impeccable results.
Research and development are two magical words that facilitate change in this world. I am intensely aware that there is no final destination for technical development, as technology thrives on innovation. I want to be known as an innovator and someone who dedicated his life to developing cutting-edge technologies which would provide solution for the most challenging real-world issues.
During my Master's at University of Florida; I’ve worked on projects like Distributed Communication Protocols for Distributed Operating Systems, Cryptography Algorithms and SSL for Computer & Network Security, P2P File Sharing System for Computer Networks, Airline Flight Information and Reservation System for Database Management Systems, Red-Black Trees for Advanced Data Structures, MIPS Dissembler and Simulator for Computer Architecture class; among others.
During my undergraduate course, I have worked on various projects based on databases and web technologies. A special experience was participating in a team project called ‘Chief Minister Information System’ for Delhi Government as part of summer internship at NIC. Being involved in the design and development of the project, it was an exciting opportunity to acquire new skills while collaborating with the research staff and other specialists on the job. The projects that followed were a shopping website justfor99.com and website of the Irish Sikh Council (design preview). I was on the team that made the college website (www.gtbit.org) where we incorporated systems to depict information about students and faculty, using database applications.
Earlier, I had developed the website of D’LangChaps, the literary society of my college of which I am an active member. I had also developed a personal website of mine (gsmodi.5gigs.com), which initiated me to learn server-side scripting. Later, I started a personal blog on which I post regularly. I had also created a site Top 3 WebHosts, wherein I had modified the Blogger template to give it a look and feel of a standard CSS website.
I have been intensely involved in various co-curricular activities during college and school life. I am an active member of D’LangChaps, the literary society of my college. From the past three years, I have been a part of the organizing team of my college fest GATES. In 2007, I was the part of the core organizing team of the fest and was the head of the Sponsorships & Media Relations group. In March 2007, I was selected as the Microsoft Student Partner. As a Student Partner, I got an opportunity to learn many new technologies and have conducted seminars on MS technologies. During school, I was selected as the Vice Head Boy and have been an active participant in the various science fairs and annual events.
I have participated in and won competitions in various fields including web development, aptitude tests, programming challenges, management events to name a few. But, more than the prizes I won, I treasure these as learning experiences. A few of my recent achievements include first prize in Inter-College B-Plan Competition at ‘Fervor 2007’; second prize in Inter-College Web Development Competition at ‘GATES 2k7’; and third prize in Inter-College Web Designing Competition at ‘iTrek ‘07’.
In my spare time I have various activities like blogging, net surfing, and reading a variety of books ranging from technology to fiction. I enjoy collecting stamps and coins of various countries and have a good collection of these in my album. To relax I have always turned to soft melodies that touch the heart.
